Whistleblower former employee sues Georgetown psychiatric hospital

While Nicola Seahorn was working at the Georgetown Behavioral Heath Institute last summer, she said she saw a video of another employee punching a patient in the face.

GEORGETOWN, Texas — A former employee of Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute is suing the hospital and accusing them of mistreating a patient.

According to our partners at the Austin American-Statesman, while Nicola Seahorn was working at the hospital last summer, she said she saw a video of another employee punching a patient in the face.

She called state regulators -- and two weeks later, she was fired.

The Texas Whistleblower Statute bans employers from firing employees who report violations of state laws.

The Statesman also reported that the Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute is also currently facing scrutiny from the Health and Human Services Commission, which fined the hospital $180,000 earlier this month after officials say it failed to monitor patients appropriately.

This is also not the first lawsuit to be filed against the hospital, according to the Statesman.
