Austin is toward the top of yet another list, this one ranking the best cities for new graduates to live in.
A study by Online Degrees ranked Austin in a tie for second with San Antonio and behind Houston. Austin's low cost of living, number of technology companies in the area, low unemployment and job growth helped give the city its high ranking. The study recommended graduates look for employment opportunities in Austin's clean energy and power, creative and digital media, manufacturing, data management and life sciences industries. Of the 59 metro areas surveyed, Online Degrees said Austin had the highest percentage of millennials in 2015, nearly 25 percent.
The study created it's ranking by profiling the metropolitan areas with a population of over 750,000. By taking the largest city in each metro area, OnlineDegrees.com then ranked the cities on a 10-point scale for factors such as the average rent, cost of living, nightlife, percentage of young people, the median earnings, and last but not least: the job market.
