Saturday's concert at Lady Bird Lake moved indoors; SXSW shares contingency plans for possible severe weather

Friday's events are going on rain or shine as scheduled, but the festival has made some adjustments to Saturday's performances.

AUSTIN, Texas —

Some popular South by Southwest (SXSW) shows were set to be held outside Friday and Saturday, but things could change depending on the weather.

The SXSW Community Concerts at Lady Bird Lake on Friday will be held downtown near Auditorium Shores at 800 W. Riverside Drive. Friday's theme is "Funk Not Fight," and doors open at 2 p.m. with performances set to run from 3 to 7 p.m.

However, SXSW had a change of venue for Saturday's concert. SXSW moved the show indoors, to Palm Door on Sixth Street. Performances will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with doors opening at 1 p.m.

A representative with SXSW said the organization has been working all week with city meteorologists to keep track of the storms. Based on what they've seen, they plan to keep the shows scheduled for Friday outside, come rain or shine.

"Obviously, we'll continue to monitor the weather. If it changes, we'll make adjustments to our plans – but right now, we are going to move on like we had already planned to do," Tami Richter, SXSW's president of event operations, said. "All of our Billboard shows are going on. All of our shows in outdoor venues are going to continue as planned."

While the show will go on, umbrellas aren't allowed,

"If we're talking about the park spaces, we're asking people to maybe consider bringing a poncho or something to cover up so that we don't block our lines of sight. Also, potentially, there could be a little bit of sharp objects, and we want to make sure that everybody is staying safe," Richter said.

Ironically, the name of the first band scheduled to play the free concert on Friday is Riders Against The Storm. You can find the full lineup here.

Depending on how bad the storm gets, SXSW will adjust its plans as needed. Any changes will be posted to the conference's social media pages.
