Silver Alert discontinued for 79-year-old man reported missing in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has discontinued a Silver Alert it issued for an elderly man with a cognitive impairment who went missing Wednesday night. 

According to DPS, prior to being found on Thursday, 79-year-old Henry Johnson had last been seen in a black 2017 GMC Yukon at approximately 11:30 p.m. May 22 on the 6500 block of Auburnhill Street. 

Johnson was last seen in a maroon checkered flannel with gray pants, black Sketcher shoes and a black Vietnam hat. 

Officials said that Johnson's disappearance could have threatened his safety and overall wellbeing. 

What to do if you know someone is missing  

If you believe a person you know is missing in Texas, call 9-1-1 or reach out directly to a nearby sheriff's office. 

Additionally, Texas DPS Missing Persons Clearinghouse, the Unidentified Persons and DNA unit have worked together to create an online portal to search for missing persons, online abductors/companions and unidentified persons. 

Using this website, individuals can search for a missing person by including details like their name, case number, eye color, where they were last seen, the state they are missing from and more.
