Austin police said the memorial marker for Officer Jaime Padron will be installed Friday evening.

Padron responded to the Walmart along Interstate 35 between Howard and Parmer Lanes around 2:30 a.m. April 6, 2012 for a reported shoplifter. That man, Brandon Daniel, struggled with Padron before shooting and killing him. Daniel was found guilty in Padron's death in 2014 and sentenced to death.

The marker will be placed in the northeast corner of the Walmart parking lot at 7 p.m. Aug. 12. Padron’s marker is the 20th marker placed as part of the Austin Police Officer Memorial Project.

APD said the project was created by Officer Jason Huskins in April 2008, and consists of placing granite memorials at every location in the city where an APD officer was killed in the line of duty. The gray granite memorials have all been donated by Rockdale Memorials.
