Periods of rain, possibly heavy, for Monday, Tuesday

The humidity and muggy feeling that has overrun the Austin metro these past few days will begin to taper off with a dramatic influence from an approaching cold front.

AUSTIN — A cold front is headed Austin's way!

Here is the outlook for the start of the work week:

MONDAY: For some, the work week starts off as a holiday because of Columbus Day, daytime highs are expected to climb into the mid 80s near or slightly above the average. Scattered showers and storms are likely to develop in the afternoon and early evening. A 70% chance of rain in your neighborhood for Monday.

TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING: This is when we will have the best chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms as the front makes its way through Central Texas. What we have to prepare for are gusty winds that could be damaging, small hail, and localized heavy rainfall.

For Monday and Tuesday, 1-3 inches of rain is expected with isolated greater amounts possible.

The cold front should clear most, if not all, of Central Texas by sunrise Wednesday which will set the stage for a fantastic rest of the week with highs in the 80s and 70s and lower humidity.

Stay with the KVUE Storm team for more updates as the cold front gets closer.
