Off-duty officer shot and killed dog, Hays County couple says

A Buda woman says her beloved pet was shot before her eyes right in her neighborhood by a Rollingwood police officer.

BUDA, Texas — A woman in Buda is shaken up after her dog was shot and killed right before her eyes in her neighborhood. A Rollingwood police officer is under investigation because of the incident.

The woman involved, nor her husband, want to be identified, they said, to prevent their family's privacy.

The woman said a spat between her dog and her neighbor's dog happened as she was getting the mail. She walks her dog every day and did not expect Wednesday morning to be any different.

"He was never aggressive," the woman said.

She said she was walking her dog, Bandit, without a leash Wednesday morning when he ran ahead of her.

"I came around the corner, the dogs were growling and, you know, barking at each other," she said. "The man reached down and grabbed Bandit by the collar and lifted him up and he backed out of his collar, and he looked at me and said, "If you don't get your dog, I'm going to shoot it."

She said the man shot twice.

"I didn't even get a chance to try to subdue him," she said.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office said they got a call about a dog attack. They said the caller said his small dog was being attacked by a large dog.

The City of Rollingwood confirms one of their officers, George Ronne, was involved during off-duty hours and they are internally investigating.

The couple said they wish the off-duty officer would have shown more restraint.

"I don't know the character of this guy," said the owner's husband. "I don't know if he's an upstanding officer or if he's someone that might be abusing his badge."

Now they are left wondering how things could have been different.

"It was just insane to me that he even shot him," said the dog's owner. "I just still, I don't understand why he took that action."

KVUE knocked on the officers' door three times but no one answered.

The City of Rollingwood said the officer involved in the dog attack has been employed there for four months.
