Martindale couple found dead near Morrison Creek in Caldwell County

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office said the couple's vehicle was found half submerged in the water. Their bodies were found downstream.

CALDWELL COUNTY, Texas — A Martindale couple was found dead over the weekend near Morrison Creek, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said they first received a call on Saturday around 8:11 a.m. reporting the couple was missing. The sheriff's office, the Martindale Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD) and the Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management (CCOEM) then began searching in the area of Southeast River Road.

By 10:28 a.m., officials located a white Nissan truck half submerged in the water matching the description of what the couple was last seen driving. At 11 a.m., the woman's body was located downstream. Search efforts for the man continued until dark.

On Sunday morning, the sheriff's office met with officials from Texas Parks and Wildlife, TEXSAR, the MVFD and the CCOEM to continue searching. By 11 a.m., they found the man's body about 1.5 miles downstream from the vehicle.

The couple was identified as Mark and Alisin Genfan.
