Man tries to burn down daughter's Austin home over misplaced debit card, police say

He faces multiple charges and is currently in Travis County Jail.

A 63-year-old man is accused of trying to set his daughter's East Austin home ablaze over a misplaced debit card, police said.

On May 18, Willie Walton called his daughter who was not at home at the time and "demanded to know where his debit card was," according to the affidavit. When his daughter said she didn't know anything about it, he allegedly said, "I'm going to burn this (expletive) down."

When she drove by her East Austin home, she said she saw scorch marks on the front of the house. She then said she saw Walton pull a lawnmower inside the house and turn it on its side to empty the gas onto the living room floor.

As Walton allegedly tried to light the fire with his lighter, his daughter said she started to push him away. Walton then allegedly tried to stab her with a pencil and threw a ceramic dish at her. During the altercation, police said Walton managed to stab her in the hand.

When fire investigators arrived, they discovered that a fire had been intentionally set to the front of the residence. Damages were estimated to be $500.

Walton is currently in Travis County Jail with a total bond set at $105,000.
