APD: No arrests after man shot to death near Mueller

The incident happened at the parking lot of the basketball court near 51st Street and Berkman Drive.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man who was shot and killed near Mueller on Wednesday has been identified.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), 23-year-old Tayjay Stephens died after officers found him inside a car with a gunshot wound.

During APD's preliminary investigation, officers said Stephens was found in the parking lot of a basketball court at the Bartholomew District Park.

Stephens was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. APD said no arrests have been made at this time after interviewing witnesses and processing the scene.

Anyone with information on the deadly shooting is asked to contact Austin police at 512-974-TIPS or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers program by visiting their website or calling 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information that leads to an arrest.

Stephens' death is being investigated as Austin's 15th homicide of 2024.
