Lost and Found Facebook group created to help flood victims find their belongings

The "Highland Lakes Flood 2018 Lost and Found" Facebook group allows users to post items they found after the flood in hopes of finding the owners.

CENTRAL TEXAS — The Llano and Colorado Rivers rushed though cities and homes, taking belongings and memories with them.

Shannon Prothro lives in Burnet and stayed dry during the floods, but she still wanted to find a way to help her community though.

“It was probably the day after the floods that I thought something's got to be done, and I looked and I thought well Facebook might be a good avenue,” said Prothro.

She created the “Highland Lakes Flood 2018 Lost and Found” Facebook group which allows users to post items they found after the flood in hopes of finding the owners.

“Before I knew it, there were 100 people and then 300 people, and it just kind of took off,” said Prothro.

Prothro said it’s been fun to watch people reunited with their belongings, like boats and wave runners.

“It feels good to see people returning pictures and things more than just boats and watercrafts,” Prothro said with a smile.
