Kyle Police Department launches new online reporting system

Instead of calling 911, Kyle residents can now report some crimes online.

KYLE, Texas — People who live in Kyle can now report certain crimes by filling out a report online instead of calling 911.

The city's police department launched a Desk Officer Reporting System (DORS) where people can submit police reports for minor offenses or non-emergency crimes.

Some examples of what can be reported online include burglary of a vehicle, harassment, theft under $2,500 and criminal trespassing. Kyle police said if a crime is in progress or poses an immediate threat, you need to call 911.

The software is accessible on any web browser from any computer or mobile device and is available to residents 24/7.

"We are excited to be able bring online police reporting as another way for our community to access our services,” Police Chief Dr. Jeff Barnett said. “This initiative showcases our unwavering dedication to providing excellent public service through innovative means."

Once an online report has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the Kyle Police Department and a case number will be emailed to the person reporting. You are then able to request a copy of your police report online.

If additional information is needed, a patrol officer or detective may contact the resident before further investigation. Kyle police said all online reports filed will be addressed in a timely manner and will follow the same investigative process as in-person reports.
