KVUE's top social media posts of 2018

From silly Christmas decorations to serious political conversations, here's a look back at some of the top posts on KVUE's social media this year.

AUSTIN — It’s the end of the year as we’ve known it.

So, to honor the end of 2018, here’s a look back at some of the top posts on KVUE’s social media this year.

Let’s start with Facebook.

Much like KVUE.com’s top 10 stories of 2018, the bombings that took place in Austin in March dominated much of the social engagement this year. For example: this breaking news video about the explosion at the Goodwill store in Southwest Austin.

And this video, live from the scene of the second home explosion in the Austin area on March 12.

And this breaking live video about bombing suspect Mark Conditt’s death.

Another of KVUE’s top Facebook posts was about Facebook itself. There was some speculation about whether a paid version of Facebook could be in the future, so KVUE asked viewers if they would pay to use the website. The answers varied.

Finally, Facebook users loved this heartwarming video of Bob Dole being helped out of his wheelchair to give a final salute to former president George H.W. Bush.

KVUE’s top tweets of 2018 ranged from silly Christmas decorations to serious political conversations.

One top tweet was about Matthew McConaughey and his family dancing at a BTS concert.

Another was about how the photo of a caged child at the Texas border was actually staged.

Lots of people responded to this video where then-Senate candidates Beto O’Rourke and Ted Cruz discussed the future of Roe V. Wade.

Also in top political tweets, there was this photo showing the thousands of people who showed up to Beto O’Rourke’s free rally in September.

And finally, people loved this now well-known video of an Austinite trying to save someone hanging from the roof of his neighbor’s house – which actually turned out to be a Christmas Vacation-inspired decoration.

On to KVUE’s top ‘grams of the year.

Instagram users went wild for the beautiful Autumn leaves in Central Texas this year.

It was a year filled with Senate race content, including when Beto O’Rourke appeared on the Ellen Show.
