How is your child's school keeping them safe?

In the wake of another school shooting, many people are left asking what happens here to keep kids safe.

Many parents are left wondering ‘what’s being done at my child’s school?’ in the wake of another school shooting.

School districts addressed what is being done at schools to take necessary steps to keep students safe.

AUSTIN ISD

AISD issued this statement:

“AISD Police is prepared to respond in a crisis and regularly works with outside police and safety organizations to ensure we have plans in place to mitigate emergency situations.”

They also stated that they encourage students and staff to report any possible security issues.

BASTROP ISD

Those with Bastrop ISD said they have standard response protocols in place, and students and staff practice various drills throughout the year.

Each campus conducts at least four lockdown drills each year.

The district has officers who are specifically trained in Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response, SWAT, and Civilian Response to Active Shooter.

They have six officers in BISD, a K-9 officer, and campus security.

Finally, BISD officials explained they also have other security and safety protocols in place that they will not discuss publicly, such as security vestibules and cameras.

GEORGETOWN ISD

Georgetown ISD said there is a protocol in place for an active shooter situation. Both students and parents are aware of the protocol, the district said.

The district conducts drills on the protocol twice a semester.

Officials said their campuses have a single point of entry for visitors at the main entrance and all exterior doors are locked.

They also have a school resource officer assigned to each campus.

HAYS CONSOLIDATED ISD

Hays Consolidated ISD said it uses a standard protocol adopted for all school districts in Hays County.

Students and parents are aware of the protocol, and it is practiced at least once annually, according to the district.

Certain administrators and principals have done active shooter trainings.

The district has other measures and protocols in place that cannot be discussed publicly.

However, they noted that exterior doors that are not used are locked to the outside. They also use cameras or have adults stationed at the doors.

They have 11 school resource officers.

LAKE TRAVIS ISD

Lake Travis ISD said it is continually working with local law enforcement to keep students and staff safe.

District officials said parents will know ahead of time if a drill is happening, and they alert parents as soon as possible in emergency situations.

Lockdown drills happen at least once a month. They have had active shooter trainings but not on a regular schedule.

There are two school resource officers that are primarily stationed at the high schools.

The district could not go into detail of certain security protocols because they said it defeats the purpose and could put staff and students in danger.

LEANDER ISD

Leander ISD said it does have protocols in place for safety incidents, including active shooter.

Leander ISD officials said they do not share the details of our security protocols as a matter of student and school safety.

They also have members of their district team trained for active shooter situations, as well as school resource officers who regularly undergo training.

ROUND ROCK ISD

Round Rock ISD said the amount of school resource officers varies with each campus. Most middle schools have one, while high schools have two.

RRISD officials said they have specific emergency protocol in every classroom in the district.

They conduct drills each month. However, the drills are not specific to active shooter situations.

The lockdown drills prepare students and staff for intruder incidents, according to those with the district.

They partner with local law enforcement to help with policing the campuses.
