AUSTIN — Most of Austin woke up to the sound of thunderstorms late Wednesday night. Those storms brought heavy rain, flash flooding and lightning.
A few of the storms turned severe.
Record rainfall was set at Austin Camp Mabry. The old record was 0.56 inches which was set in 2000. The Austin area managed to triple this record Wednesday with a new daily record rainfall accumulation of 1.83 inches.

Another daily rainfall accumulation record was broken at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Wednesday. The old record was 0.63 inches which was set in 1997. The new daily record is 0.75 inches.
Radar estimated rainfall accumulations exceeded 3 inches in some areas across central Texas. This was enough to cause over 125 low water crossing closures around the Austin Metro by Thursday morning and multiple water rescues.
