Hays High School Baseball coach dies

David Null died early on Sunday.

HAYS COUNTY -- David Null passed away early on Sunday.

Null taught Advanced Placement Chemistry and coached baseball at Jack C. Hays High School.

Null was hired by Hays Consolidated Independent School District in 2009 and took over as the head coach for the baseball team three years ago.

Null is described by those who knew him as hardworking, smart and funny.

"I never really had to reach out to him, he would pull me aside and say, hey I know something wrong,” said former student Addie Kelly. “And that was really beneficial because at the time I didn't really know how to reach out for help, that was something I struggled with so he didn't make me he was just always there."

An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Hays High School Principal David R. Pierce met with the families of the students on the baseball team Sunday morning and the counseling team was at the school today assisting families, according to Hays CISD public information officer.

Pierce sent the below email to the Hays High School community:
