Family of Lina Sardar Khil observing another birthday as search for her continues

Her birthday comes days after police launched and stopped a renewed search in her case. She disappeared in December 2021.

SAN ANTONIO — The family of Lina Sardar Khil is observing another birthday without her. She has now been missing for over two years.

The little girl vanished as a toddler back in 2021, and turns 6 years old on Tuesday. Lina’s birthday comes days after police launched a renewed search in her case. However, that tip proved to not be any good, and the search was halted.

Last week KENS 5 was at a wooded area near a Fredericksburg Road apartment complex, where police were following a lead they hoped would shed light on Lina’s case.

But their search turned up empty, causing more frustration for her family. With close to no substantial developments in the case, her father says he’s lost confidence with the current police leadership tasked with finding his daughter.

Through a translator he told us Friday that he asked SAPD for a new detective but was denied.

“As I demand the changing and switching the case manager or the detective for Lina’s case, they make their own rules after that and say no we can’t do that it’s the law.”

We asked SAPD about his request and they told us that “at this time we are not taking any follow up questions on this case. Our detectives have followed up on all leads they have received and will continue to do so.”

Typically, the family holds an observance for her birthday at the complex where went missing from. However, a family spokesperson tells us they are not emotionally equipped for it this year.
