Police investigating homicide in North Austin

APD said officers do not have a suspect in custody.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide that happened early Saturday morning.

Police said the incident happened on Colony Creek Drive in North Austin, off U.S. 183 and Northgate Boulevard near West Rundberg Lane.

Just before 3:30 a.m., police were near Northgate Boulevard when they heard a disturbance. Responding officers found a man in his 30s on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics arrived, but the man, identified as 38-year-old Nicholas Taylor, died on the scene at 3:37 a.m.

In an update on Tuesday, May 7, APD said investigators determined Taylor was pulled from his vehicle and shot, then the suspect fled the area. Police said they do not have a suspect in custody.

It’s believed this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

This is being investigated as Austin’s 19th homicide of 2024.
