Central Texas' Souper Bowl of Caring surpasses $1.5 million in meals

Souper Bowl of Caring hopes to collect enough donations to provide $3 million in meals to those in need.

AUSTIN, Texas — While we still have several days before the Patriots and Rams face off in the Super Bowl, Central Texas' own "Souper Bowl" is making a huge impact right here at home.

Since the annual hunger-relief campaign Souper Bowl of Caring kicked off two weeks ago, area-wide collection centers at places like schools and churches have been working to help meet the goal of $1.5 million in meals.

As of Tuesday, Central Texas has reached the half-way mark with a combined cash and food collection total sufficient to help provide $1.5 million meals.

“The Souper Bowl of Caring plays a vital role in helping us stock the shelves and purchase produce for the 46,000 clients we serve across our 21-county service area each week,” said Derrick Chubbs, President & CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. “A big thanks to everyone who gives during the campaign. And thank you to H-E-B, Randalls, and Central Market, who make it so easy for the community to give. I know that together we can reach this year’s goal of collecting 3 million meals for Central Texans in need.”

If you'd like to donate, you can look for the Souper Bowl of Caring displays at participating Central Market, H-E-B and Randalls stores to pick-up a pre-packaged bag or make a cash donation at the register.

All donations benefit hunger-relief charities like the Central Texas Food Bank and their nearly 260 partner agencies.
