APD: Body recovered from Lady Bird Lake identified as a woman

Police said the body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy after it was recovered.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police say the body recovered from Lady Bird Lake earlier this week was a woman.

During the Austin Police Department's ongoing investigation, police revealed Wednesday that the case is not being ruled a homicide. They also said a toxicology report is still pending.

Police said the body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

What happened?

First responders recovered a body from Lady Bird Lake on Monday afternoon.

According to Austin-Travis County EMS, medics got a call around 1:31 p.m. for a body in the water.

Officials arrived at the area along West Cesar Chavez Street, near Buford Tower, and found an adult dead at the scene.

In an update, APD said investigators are not sure how long the body has been in the water and that they're unsure if the body had any wounds.
