Austin-Travis County EMS, AFD responds to explosion at Gatesville-area hospital

According to officials, one person died and 12 people were injured as a result of the explosion.

GATESVILLE, Texas -- Five Austin-Travis County ambulances and two emergency personnel members have been sent to Gatesville, Texas, to assist in a reported explosion at Coryell Memorial Hospital.

According to officials, one person died and 12 people were injured as a result of the explosion. During the explosion, part of the building collapsed, according to the office of emergency management.

ATCEMS said an AmBus -- a special EMS unit that can transport up to 20 patients at once -- is preparing to respond to the explosion as well.

ATCEMS said they have also sent a Medical Incident Support Team member to assist with the explosion.

The Austin Fire Department said they will also send three trucks, one battalion chief and ten structural collapse techs to assist with the explosion.
