During a memorial event to honor all of the department's fallen officers, Pastore's name was added to the department's memorial wall.

"I know these memorials are not easy, but I do hope that they serve as a healing moment for you and a reminder that we will never forget your hero," Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson said at Friday's ceremony, addressing the families of all fallen officers and thanking them for their support of the department.

Pastore started his career with APD in June 2019 before being commissioned as a police officer at the start of 2020. He also served as a paramedic and firefighter prior to moving to Austin.

APD held a citywide memorial for Pastore shortly after his death in November. He is survived by his wife, stepchildren and parents.

Henderson said that representatives from the department would be traveling to Washington, D.C., in two weeks to add Pastore's name to the National Peace Officers' Memorial Wall.
