Austin Police Department welcomes 39 new officers

The 151st cadet class graduated on Friday.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has 39 new officers on the force this weekend.

Officers of the 151st cadet class graduated on Friday afternoon after completing a 32-week training program.

The graduates say they are ready to begin their new journey.

"I know you will make us proud, make your families proud and make the city of Austin proud. Thank you again for stepping up to be an ever-ready hero," Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson said.

Henderson noted this class included 10 women – the most of any APD graduating class.

APD is facing a shortage of more than 300 sworn officers.
