APD says 'suspicious package' call was related to earlier SWAT situation in South Austin

Police have cleared the scene of a suspicious package at a South Austin apartment complex, officials said Thursday evening.

AUSTIN, Texas — Bomb squad units have cleared the scene of a suspicious package at a South Austin apartment complex, officials said Thursday evening.

At approximately 7:24 p.m. Thursday, Austin police responded to in the 1800 block of E. Stassney Lane in South Austin regarding a suspicious package, which was the same area SWAT arrested a wanted fugitive earlier Thursday afternoon.

APD said the bomb squad was called to the location.

The apartment complex at that location, Stassney Woods Apartments, evacuated one building in the complex while police investigated the suspicious package, police said. Police told KVUE the suspicious package call was related to the SWAT arrest earlier Thursday afternoon.

Police started allowing residents of Stassney Woods Apartments back into their apartments and the APD bomb squad left the scene.
