AUSTIN – Crews will work 24 hours per day, six days a week as part of the work to build a 6,000-space parking garage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The airport said Austin Commercial LP will remove an estimated 80,000 yards of mixed soil from the former location of Lot A before the parking garage can be built. This translates to an estimated 8,000 dump truck loads, and an average of 120 truckloads per day.

ABIA added “a large portion” of the soil will be repurposed and used as base material in the parking garage construction. KVUE previously reported the parking garage is scheduled to be complete in 2018 as part of the airport’s ongoing expansion.

The airport’s weekly update also stated 17 roof trusses have arrived as part of the airport’s nine-gate expansion. Each truss weighs 41,000 pounds and spans 135 feet by 17 feet, and the airport says they anticipate completion on the terminal expansion in 2019.
