Semi-truck driver charged with DWI after incident involving multiple damaged vehicles

A semi-truck driver was allegedly stuck at a dead-end street when they began ramming into nearby vehicles, including one owned by the Austin Police Department.

AUSTIN, Texas — A semi-truck driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated after causing damage to multiple vehicles Sunday night in Downtown Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the driver was stuck at a dead-end at approximately 11:30 p.m., at the intersection East Ninth Street and Embassy Drive. The driver then allegedly began steering into multiple vehicles, pushing them towards trees, street signs and on top of the curb.

When APD officers arrived to the scene at around 11:40 p.m., they located the driver inside the 18-wheeler. They also learned that one of APD's vehicles was among those damaged, but there was no one inside that unit.

The semi-truck driver was arrested for DWI. APD said approximately eight other vehicles were damaged, but no injuries have been reported.
