Bollywood with a Texas twist | 'The Big Fat Indian Wedding' takes Mueller Lake Park

The Big Fat Indian wedding runs from Sept. 6 through 9 at Mueller Lake Park.

AUSTIN — “The Big Fat Indian Wedding” is the first site-specific Bollywood production in Austin’s South Asian Diaspora, and it debuts on Sept. 6 at Mueller Lake Park.

Immerse yourself, literally, in a hilarious comedy of errors as you follow the love story of Annabelle Taylor and Arjun Shah. “The Big Fat Indian Wedding” will make you laugh, sing and dance as Indian and Texan cultures clash in this Bollywood-style theatrical production.

The production offers all the glitz of Bollywood but with a Texas twist. “BFIW” is a family-friendly production that takes audiences through a site-specific, cross-cultural extravagance with a cast as diverse as the state of Texas.

What does site-specific mean? Audiences will go from location to location at the venue, much like a real wedding. In fact, it’ll feel just like being a guest at one, but even more fun as they celebrate contemporary Bollywood films, “Desi” weddings, and Broadway — all in one theatrical performance.

Audience members will also enjoy a lively post-event celebration with local Indian food, a Bollywood DJ and merchandise vendors.

Performances dates and times:

  • Thursday, Sept. 6 — 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 7 — 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 8 — 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Sept. 9 — 7:30 p.m.

Agni Entertainment is best known in Austin for their large-scale Bollywood productions including 2013’s “Om Shanti-Once Upon A Time in Bollywood.” Banskota Productions is a production house based in Austin that creates performing arts focused on the South Asian community.
