Austin pedestrian killed in Thanksgiving hit-and-run

This incident is begin investigated as Austin's 80th fatal crash of the year.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is searching for a driver who hit and killed a pedestrian, then fled the scene, on Airport Boulevard on Thanksgiving.

APD said at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23, officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and a pedestrian in the 4500 block of Airport Boulevard, near the In-N-Out Burger. The driver left the area without stopping or calling 911, and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

This information is from the initial assessment of the crash, and APD said the investigation is still pending.

According to the police department, this incident is being investigated as Austin's 80th crash of 2023, resulting in 83 deaths. On Nov. 23, 2022, there had been 97 fatal crashes resulting in 101 deaths.
