AUSTIN, Texas — A man has been arrested and charged following a deadly attack near northeast Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers were called out to Rogge Lane, which is near the Little Walnut Creek Greenbelt, after receiving an urgent welfare check call on Saturday, Nov. 18.

When officers arrived, they found 68-year-old Baron Godwin on the ground and unresponsive. Life-saving measures were performed, but Godwin was pronounced dead at the scene.

APD investigators believe Godwin was attacked while in his wheelchair. They later arrested 62-year-old Ronnie Green and charged him with injury to the elderly, which is a felony. Records show Green is being held in Travis County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Anyone with information about this deadly attack is asked to contact APD's Homicide division at 512-974-TIPS. You can also email APD Homicide or submit a tip through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.

APD says Godwin's death is Austin's 62nd homicide of 2023.
