AUSTIN, Texas — Two arrests have been made after former pro cyclist Lance Armstrong had more than $100,000 worth of bikes stolen from his Austin storage unit.
According to court records obtained by KVUE, 33-year-old Ethan Harms and 36-year-old Shaun Thompson were arrested after they allegedly stole six bicycles from Armstrong's storage unit in west Austin.
Security footage allegedly showed the two men arrive at the storage unit on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 10, and load three bikes into a black SUV. The footage showed them return that same day just after 9 p.m. to load three more bikes into the SUV from Armstrong's storage unit.
Austin police said they spotted a black Acura MDX with a distinct "Hello Kitty" sticker on the back to connect the men to the other burglaries, including Armstrong's, according to documents.
Authorities used help from Armstrong's longtime personal assistant, Dave Bolch, and Houston-based sports memorabilia company TRISTAR Productions to assign values to all six stolen bicycles, which carried a combined value of $105,800.
Harms and Thompson were charged with third-degree felonies, which could carry a prison sentence between two and 10 years. Harms remains in Travis County jail on bonds totaling more than $65,000.
According to KVUE's partners at the Austin American-Statesman, only three of the six bikes have been recovered by police so far.
