5 minors arrested in connection with Lakeway car thefts

The suspects ranged from 12 to 16 years old.

LAKEWAY, Texas — Five minors have been arrested in Travis County following recent vehicle break-ins.

According to a Facebook post made by the Lakeway Police Department on Monday, five minors were caught in two stolen vehicles early Saturday morning in the Rough Hollow neighborhood.

At approximately 2 a.m., officers arrived in the Peninsula neighborhood after they were notified of attempted vehicle break-ins by a resident who saw the attempts on their security cameras.

Officers were able to locate one of the stolen vehicles with four of the suspects inside. The driver of the second vehicle was able to get away.

Officers then found the second vehicle, which was unoccupied, in Austin. They eventually located the fifth suspect, and all five of the minors were arrested.

Lakeway police said the suspects ranged between 12 and 16 years old. All had been previously accused of crimes, including past vehicle thefts, burglary and weaponry charges.

Following this incident, the police department is encouraging Lakeway residents to remain aware of their surroundings and belongings.

"Please remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police," the Facebook post stated. "Please continue to remove valuable items from your vehicles and lock your doors when you park, even at your own home. Always take your keys with you."
