Son of Dominican Republic leader killed in 'extremely violent' shooting at Houston gas station

Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas was killed and another man was critically injured Monday in the shooting.

HOUSTON — Houston Police have released the name of the man killed Monday night in a daring ambush shooting at a gas station in the Gulfgate area.

Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, was the son of Alfredo Pacheco, who is president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.

"We have spoken with Mr. Pacheco about his son’s death and advised him detectives continue efforts to determine possible motives for the shooting," HPD posted on X.

"With a heavy heart, I share the unexpected death of my son "Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, who lives out of the country. What happened is currently being investigated," Pacheco posted on X. "I give my sincerest thanks to the friends and colleagues during this difficult time. Out of respect I ask my social media friends have understanding, I will keep them well informed through this platform."

A 29-year-old man, whose name hasn't been released, was also critically wounded in what homicide detectives are calling a "targeted" attack.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. at the Star Stop convenience store on South Wayside Drive near Telephone Road and the Gulf Freeway

On Tuesday, police released surveillance photos of the three gunmen who they said opened fire on a Cadillac Escalade with the victims and two other men inside.

They pulled up in a gray four-door Dodge Charger and a gray four-door Mercedes sedan,  surrounded the SUV and started shooting.

"This was extremely violent. It was well orchestrated, it was planned and these are some very dangerous individuals," Andy Kahan with Crime Stoppers Houston told us. "It reminded me of something that vicious and that brutal that came out of nowhere with the barrage of bullets."

Pacheco Rojas tried to run back inside the store and was shot multiple times in the back. Police said he was also armed but it's not clear if he returned fire.

The other two men in the SUV weren't hurt.

There appeared to be more than two dozen bullet holes in the SUV's front windshield. Bullets also shattered the front of the store and left holes in a window and a wall. An employee told us on Tuesday that he feels lucky he wasn't hit.

Police said two suspects wore all white and a third wore a white shirt and black pants. One of them had prominent neck tattoos.

There is surveillance video of the shooting. We were there when HPD looked at it inside the store on Wednesday but they're not releasing it to the media.

Houston police are asking anyone who may have information on this shooting or know the suspects to call CrimeStoppers at 713-222-8477. There is a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
