Hays County deputies shoot, kill suspect after disturbance in Buda

The Hays County Sheriff's Office said two deputies fired their guns at the suspect after he refused to drop two knives he was holding.

BUDA, Texas — Two Hays County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputies were involved in a shooting in Buda that resulted in the death of a suspect Friday morning.

According to the HCSO, just before 8 a.m. Friday, the office received a 911 call about a disturbance in the 100 block of Hunter Creek Cove in Buda. The caller said a man was attempting to kick in the front door of a residence. As deputies headed to the scene, the caller said the man trying to kick in the door was the ex-boyfriend of a girl who lives in the home. The caller said the suspect was armed with two knives.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they saw a man in his 30s with a knife in each hand. HCSO said the deputies gave the man several commands to drop the knives, but he would not comply.

Two deputies fired their guns, and the man was struck, according to HCSO. Deputies and medics on the scene attempted to save the man's life, but he was pronounced dead.

The HCSO said the criminal investigation into this incident will be conducted by the HCSO with assistance from the Texas Rangers. Both of the deputies who fired at the suspect will be placed on administrative leave, per the HCSO's policy.
