Man charged after pedestrian hit, killed in southwest Austin crash

AUSTIN, Texas — A driver was arrested after a deadly crash that left a pedestrian dead in southwest Austin.

Police said 41-year-old Jacob Sussman has been charged with intoxication manslaughter following an early morning crash on Wednesday near Highway 290 and West William Cannon Drive.

Austin police said Sussman was driving a pickup truck that crashed into the rear of an SUV. He then allegedly hit a pedestrian with his truck, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene. That driver is cooperating with the investigation, according to police. Meanwhile, police have not yet identified the pedestrian who was killed in the crash.

Austin police said this is the eighth deadly crash of 2024, which has resulted in eight deaths so far.
