AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is searching for a suspect in the city's 20th homicide of the year.

Just after 11 p.m. on May 5, officers arrived to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive to perform a welfare check at an apartment complex, not far from the Armadillo Neighborhood Park.

Upon arrival, APD found a man – later identified as 63-year-old Aristeo Campos-Cuellar – who had been shot. He was taken to a nearby hospital by Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS), and he died the following morning at approximately 7:13 a.m.

Upon further investigation, crime scene specialists and homicide detectives were able to determine Campos-Cuellar was shot by an unidentified person who fled the apartment complex before law enforcement could learn more.

APD is offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who can provide additional information that could lead to a possible arrest. Anyone with any information can call APD at 512-974-TIPS or the Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477. Tips can also be submitted anonymously at austincrimestoppers.org.

No additional information is available at this time.
