AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a shooting in far northeast Austin that resulted in the death of a man.

Austin police say the shooting occurred in the early morning hours of May 17 in the 8100 block of Blue Goose Road. Police say someone in a vehicle contacted police and told them they had driven to a nearby Waffle House.

Officers and medics with Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) arrived at the Waffle House and found a man in the backseat of the vehicle – later identified as 32-year-old Eliud Cueva Jr. – suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Cueva was taken to a hospital, where he died the next day.

Detectives determined that Cueva was in the back of a friend’s vehicle that pulled into a complex on Blue Goose Road and was hit by gunfire when a suspect fired into the vehicle.
