AUSTIN, Texas — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has arrested an Austin man for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, heroin and pills.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by KVUE, the DEA had been investigating Joshua James Calvo under suspicion of being a heroin and methamphetamine dealer in the Austin area. As part of its investigation, the agency obtained a federal search warrant for Calvo's residence on Valdez Street in southeast Austin.

On May 1, DEA agents, Georgetown Police Department officers and members of Williamson County SWAT executed the warrant. As DEA agents approached the home, they initiated lights, sirens and commands for occupants to come outside.

The complaint states that at that time, Calvo was seen running out of the back of the home with a box in his hand; however, he went back inside after seeing law enforcement. DEA agents then approached the home to make entry because no one had come out when commanded.

Inside, agents encountered Calvo's spouse and three juveniles. Agents then found Calvo, who was "verbally noncompliant," according to the complaint. After several minutes, Calvo attempted to flee but was detained by agents, who allegedly found that he had a knife in his front pocket.

Once the home was cleared, DEA agents began their search. Cumulatively, the agents found more than 4.5 pounds of suspected meth, more than 2 pounds of suspected heroin and about 1.5 pounds of "M30" pills, as well as a "large quantity" of marijuana, suspected cocaine and an assortment of other pills.

Agents also discovered a safe containing a large amount of money estimated to be between $25,000 to $30,000, as well as eight handguns and nine "high powered rifles." The criminal complaint noted that Calvo's criminal history includes felony convictions.

After the search was completed, Calvo was taken to the DEA's Austin District Office for an interview, where he admitted that all of the drugs and guns that were found were his. He was then taken to the Williamson County Jail.

The complaint states that the DEA field-tested the M30 pills, suspected meth and suspected heroin. Both the suspected meth and heroin field-tested positive for those substances, and the M30 pills field-tested positive for fentanyl.

Williamson County Jail records show Calvo was committed on May 1 and released to another agency on May 2.
