Veterinary clinic looking to rebuild after crash

Owners of a local veterinary hospital are trying to pick up the pieces after a truck crashed into their building last week.

Owners of a local veterinary hospital are trying to pick up the pieces after a truck crashed into their building last week.

Dr. Arlon and Janet Graef have owned Graef Veterinary Hospital in Taylor since 1983, and the couple has grown close to their clients.

"You cannot have more personal, compassionate care than from Dr. Graef and Janet,” said longtime customer Loretta Patschke.

A driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his pick-up into the clinic Sunday morning, destroying the storage area, waiting room and reception desk. The Graefs now have thousands of dollars’ worth of damage and no insurance.

“He pushed everything back there all the way up to the front of the building,” Mrs. Graef said. "He's 65 and I'm 63, we were talking retirement and this was the last thing we thought of."

Despite the setback, their clients continue to be by their side.

The community has set up account with a local bank for donations to help re-build, the Taylor community didn't hesitate to jump on.

"We're going to get ‘em back on his feet,” Patscke said.

Within 24 hours there have been over 300 shares of on Facebook about the donation process.

"It means a lot...it means a lot,” Graef said.

The couple says they plan to re-open at some point by using dividers to separate the damaged area and the rest of the clinic.
