AUSTIN, Texas — According to the US Census, Pflugerville is the third fastest-growing city in the country.
To keep up, the Pflugerville City Council is considering some zoning changes.
Nancy and Jeff Reeb have lived at their “Old Town” Pflugerville home for 21 years. Their home is more than 100 years old.
“We'd like to see the downtown remain historical and quaint,” said Nancy.
The area already has a lot of activity.
“The cars start just ripping through here,” said Reeb. “Because they assume there's an outlet here somewhere. And then they get frustrated.”
The Reebs' home is nearly surrounded by dead-end roads. They fear the city council will approve changing the zoning from general business to single-family on the several acres of empty land down Willow Street, which is a dead-end road.

That means the developer Old Town East LLP could continue with plans to build condo-style townhomes, extend Willow Street and bring traffic into their neighborhood.
"All it's going to do is funnel a bunch of traffic,” said Jeff. “A lot of traffic, as that property develops right here and dumps it right-square into Pecan Street.”
The City is also considering changing an area near West Pflugerville Parkway and Greenlawn from agricultural zoning to multi-family.
The Reebs said they are not against growth, they just want the City to plan smarter.
“We just would hate to see it opened up where it's just nothing but a throughway for people,” said Nancy. “I think that would ruin the heart of this neighborhood."
City council will vote a second time on these zoning changes on the Feb. 27. With that approval, the condo developer would then create a site plan.
