Three Central Texas counties among state's best for small businesses

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin is a booming city, and that growth is spilling over to its surrounding cities. Some areas are growing faster than others.

A study from SmartAsset shows Mason, Gillespie and Blanco counties are among the top 10 Texas counties with the most small-business owners and small-business income.

Mason is number four on the list. About 13% of the income in that county comes from small businesses. Gillespie was number five on the list, and Blanco was number 10.

The study used IRS data to find the places in the U.S. where small businesses are the most prominent. The small business index value for these counties is based on how well they performed in three categories – small business returns, small business income and income taxes.
