Study ranks Austin as No. 1 city for a startup business

The study was based on data including unemployment rates, corporate tax rate, media income and other factors.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin is ranked the best city for a startup businesses, according to online loans engine Pheabs. The company's study was based on data including unemployment rates, corporate tax rate, media income and other factors.

"It's growing every day," said director of strategic partnerships for Capital Factory Carley Deardorff.

Capital Factory is a company that supports startups and entrepreneurs. Deardorff said there are several reasons she believes Austin is a top city for startups.

"It's a young, vibrant city. There is a lot of new things coming … We have an incredible energy that is different than a lot of cities. We continue to see it grow and change, and that's one of the best things about it," said Deardorff.

Part of the vibrant city is the hundreds of entrepreneurs that were at the Austin Startup Week event downtown, put on by Capital Factory and other partners. It helps different startups by providing them with networking and learning opportunities.

"Founders met with incredible mentors to talk about different points, where they are at in the business, and learn from each other," said Deardorff.

Alex Romano is part of the startup app called Student Ally, aimed at protecting college students on campus.

"If we can get a good partner in Austin between the education environment and investors environment, this would be a great place to use a beta site," said Romano.
