Sweet success! Pflugerville baker receives national recognition

When it comes to business, Sianni Dean is on a roll.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — Some people are just born entrepreneurs. It's in their DNA. When it comes to business, one Pflugerville baker is on a roll.

Meet Sianni Dean, owner of Cranky Granny's Sweet Rolls. She started selling candy and juices at the age of 5.

"People always knew me to be selling things," Dean said.

At 15 years old, she took an entrepreneurship class in high school. It was there when she first had the idea to make cinnamon rolls – something her granny and mom love to bake.

One month after graduation, at 18, Dean jump-started her business.

From churro to strawberry and blueberry banana rolls, Dean offers all kinds of flavors. It's been a long road, but she has offered a word of advice for those wanting to follow their dreams.

"There are going to be plenty of hard times, but make sure you push through them and know that better days are definitely going to be coming. And do your market research that's like my number one advice for anyone. Make sure you do your market research and know exactly what you are walking into so that way you can walk in with a lot more confidence," Dean said.

The business owner has also been getting some national recognition. Pepsi awarded Cranky Granny's Sweet Rolls as one of the best Black-owned restaurants in the country, and several restaurants at MGM Grand in Las Vegas have featured her rolls. Over Super Bowl weekend, customers got to taste the Bourbon Peach Cobbler French Toast flavor.

If you'd like to try the rolls, Dean's store is located at 16051 Dessau Road, Suite F, in Pflugerville.

You can also order online and have them delivered.
