To kick off the first day of Austin City Limits, a band based out of New York sunk down on a fluffy dream cloud to engage the minds of people who don't mind traveling "far out."

Corbu, a band who describes their sound as mid-70s Pink Floyd mixed with modern electronic beats, is comprised of lead singer Jonathan Graves, creative partner Amanda and drummer Todd Hollerman.

Though they've only been together two years, Corbu has already honed in on the journey they want listeners to travel to with their debut album "Crayon Soul." It's a child-like fantasy in the midst of the turmoil of adulthood.

"A lot of the songs on the album are about trying to hold on to that [child-like mentality] and keep that part of yourself open while holding it together," Graves said. "It's that balance and struggle."

As a first-time ACL performer, the spacey band had an early set at 11:30 a.m. with a slow-growing crowd, but they weren't discouraged.

"I like playing for crowds that are unfamiliar with us because you sort of experience the process of winning them over. You feel like you've earned something with them," said Graves.

The band, who embarked on an eight-city U.S. tour before heading to the capital city, admitted the weirdness of Austin definitely gels with their aura. Graves said he draws a lot of his inspiration from vivid lucid dreams.

"There's no lying to yourself within dreams. Everything is completely honest. Everything is out there whether it's beautiful or ugly about yourself," Graves said. "You're seeing yourself in your own mind in a pure state. I think that is the best place to create from."

Although, Austin was the last stop on their tour for 2016, the psychadelic pop-fusion band has no plans to slow down.

"We don't want to stop. We don't want to go home."

They hope they're next music project will take listeners out of the internal realm of child-like fantasy, and into a social world that brings people closer together.
