Former Longhorn T'Vondre Sweat taken by Tennessee Titans in second round of the 2024 NFL Draft

Sweat won the 2023 Outland Trophy and was viewed as one of the draft's top defensive tackles before off-the-field issues muddied his draft stock.

AUSTIN, Texas — One of the defensive leaders of the Texas Longhorns now has an NFL home.

Former Longhorns defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat was picked by the Tennessee Titans 38th overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Sweat had a truly magical 2023 season, raking in 45 tackles and two sacks while frequently being the offensive line's biggest concern during any given play. His remarkable 2023 campaign culminated in winning the 2023 Outland Trophy, which is given to college football's best interior lineman, and being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He was also a unanimous All-American and First-team All-Big 12.

Sweat also weighed in at 366 pounds at the combine, which means he will be one of heaviest players in the NFL next season.

In spite of his accomplishments, his draft stock was muddied after a DWI arrest in Austin in early April. It is unclear if he will face any punishment from the league following the arrest.

Sweat will now join a Titans defensive line anchored by multiple-time All-Pro selection Jeffery Simmons and could earn a starting role beside him as soon as his rookie season.
