Man charged with murder in Kingsland homicide investigation

The man, whose injuries officials said appeared to be self-inflicted, knocked on the door of a residence for help. A woman was later found dead.

KINGSLAND, Texas — After a man who appeared to be injured knocked on the door of another residence for help and was later transported to the hospital, officials have now charged him in the death of a woman a few doors down.

Gary Dean Reese Jr., 26, has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony.

Officials said Llano Dispatch received a 911 call from a residence on the 200 block of Ridgeway Street on Jan. 19 at 4:42 p.m. A caller stated a man appeared at his door with injuries.

Once deputies arrived and questioned the injured man, they determined a homicide occurred at a residence on the 300 block of the same street. There, the female was found deceased.

LCSO investigators and a Texas Ranger responded to that residence to investigate the homicide. The victim, Rachel Mansell, was found with severe trauma about her body.

Reese was transported to a San Antonio hospital with life-threatening injuries, which officials said appeared to be self-inflicted. He was released on Feb. 21 and booked into the Llano County Jail with a bond set at $50,000. Officials said he bonded out that evening.

An autopsy on the victim's body was performed on Jan. 20. Investigation is ongoing.
