Austin hit-and-run case caught on camera going to grand jury

A woman was critically injured in the Feb. 9 incident, which police said happened when she was struck by a pickup in an Austin parking lot.

AUSTIN -- A hit-and-run case in February that was caught on camera will soon be presented to a Travis County grand jury to determine if charges will be filed against anyone possibly involved, authorities confirmed Tuesday to KVUE's and the Austin American-Statesman's Tony Plohetski.

Assistant District Attorney Matt Foye said prosecutors plan to present evidence by month’s end. He said he could not elaborate further because of the ongoing investigation.

A woman was critically injured in the Feb. 9 incident, which police said happened when she was struck by a pickup in the parking lot located near Interstate 35 and East Ben White Boulevard. The Austin Police Department said at the time that they have impounded a truck and have a person of interest.

An Austin school district police officer with possible ties to the case has been placed on leave, officials said in February. According to a search warrant obtained by KVUE, Austin Independent School District Officer Adam Marsh has been named a person of interest.

Austin police opted to not immediately file charges in the case. Instead, they handed the investigation in recent weeks to prosecutors to determine how it should proceed – a step law enforcement often takes in high profile cases or if facts about evidence are in dispute.
