Firefighters respond to large house fire in East Austin Wednesday

The fire was declared extinguished just after 9:30 p.m.

AUSTIN, Texas — Firefighters with the Austin Fire Department (AFD) battled a large house fire in East Austin on Wednesday night and responded to another fire early Thursday morning.

AFD said it received calls of a house with heavy fire through the roof in the 4600 block of Craigwood Drive just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Crews arrived and located the fire burning through the roof. Firefighters then entered the structure to extinguish the fire.

The fire was declared extinguished just after 9:30 p.m., but AFD said it would still overhaul the structure to search for fire extension and hot spots.

Medics with Austin-Travis County EMS also responded to the scene, but there were no reports of injuries.

A few hours later, just after 2 a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a fire at an abandoned building on West 30th Street. That fire was also quickly put out.
