AUSTIN, Texas — One man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting at a Super 8 hotel off of Interstate 35 and State Highway 71 in South Austin.
The Austin Police Department (APD) said just after midnight Thursday, a 911 caller reported that two men at the hotel had guns.
Shortly after officers arrived on the scene, they heard a gunshot. The officers got out of their cars and made contact with the suspect and the victim.
Police said the shooting happened in the parking lot, and officers found the gun near the suspect. That man has been taken into custody.
Officers performed first aid on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, it is not clear whether the suspect and victim knew each other, but police said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
