Melia Masumoto joined KVUE in February 2023 as a reporter/multi-skilled journalist.

She is a Southern California native and grew up in Surf City USA, also known as Huntington Beach. Wanting to experience life outside of California, she headed east to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and fashion media.

As a student she worked as reporter, anchor and senior executive producer for SMU-TV. She was also  a writer and production coordinator for SMU’s award-winning lifestyle and fashion magazine, SMU Look.

Melia worked as an intern at KFSM, 5NEWS in Fort Smith/Fayetteville, Arkansas, the last summer before her senior year at SMU. During her time there, she was more reporter than intern, preparing packages daily for the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. shows and reporting live on location and in studio.

Fun facts: Melia has studied and competed in all styles of dance from a young age, including a professional training program with the Bolshoi Ballet and the Radio City Rockettes in NYC.

Outside of work, Melia continues her dance training and loves to follow fashion news, work on puzzles and spend time with family and friends.

And if you’re wondering where the last name “Masumoto” comes from, Melia is a quarter Japanese from her father’s side, whose family grew up on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
