Man credits 911 operator with saving his life

A local man is thankful to be alive today, and he said it's all thanks to a Georgetown 911 operator.

Jerry Peterson suffered sudden cardiac death with congestive heart failure about a month ago.

“And that's why I have a sore chest today,” he joked.

Peterson continues to recover in March, and he credits a Georgetown 911 operator, Jennifer Templeton, with saving his life.

“They didn't think (Peterson) was breathing, he was having a breathing problem, he wasn't responding that well,” Templeton recalled. “At that, point we basically do an emergency medical protocol.”

Templeton started coaching Peterson's family members over the phone on how to properly perform CPR until medics arrived.

“It's a very close relationship you have with that person at that time,” Templeton said. “And then it is kind of hard because you don't get the closure.”

Templeton got her closure this time around.

The 911 operator finally met up with the couple who now calls her "their angel."

“She's my angel,” said Jerry. “Yes, definitely. God sent her.”

The Petersons both agreed that without Templeton’s guidance, Jerry would not be alive.

So with Templeton's help, Peterson may recover happily at his home.
